CASTING (Cont'd)
The director and producers conducted several
casting sessions to find an actress to play Dr.
Flowers, a highly manipulative woman who
fluctuates between extremes of cruelty and
kindness. Says producer Moni Boyce: "We had
over 1,000 actresses submit for the role of the
therapist. [A famous actress] was even
interested. It was a challenging part. Flowers is
actually a lot more messed up than Janie, but you
don't see it at first." The filmmaker's unanimously
agreed that Debra Hopkins demonstrated the
acting range required for the complex role.

Rounding out the cast is Michael Kirkland as Janie's boyfriend, Ron; nine-year-old Courtney Robinson,
who plays Janie in flashbacks as a seven-year old; Jerry Schumacher as Janie's father; and Carol Soldo as
Janie's mother. Doug Purdy, Jamela Asha, Tom Huben, and Silvia Schuessler also have supporting roles.
PRODUCTION
Principal photography began on May 14, 2006. To work
around the schedule of Case, who taped The Young and the
Restless Monday through Friday, the crew shot only once a
week on Sundays. This allowed the producers a full week to
prepare for the next shoot day.
